Union Square Penthouse

Description

This comprehensive renovation of an 1,800-square-foot duplex penthouse in the Union Square neighborhood of Manhattan beautifully accentuates the space's unique character, including its distinctive Gothic windows and impressive height, while reflecting the owner’s eclectic style. The project involved replacing the heavy interior spiral staircase, which was used as an opportunity to create a more comfortable, code-compliant, and translucent focal point for the home.

Embracing a Gothic Dorothy Draper style, the design incorporates a deep walnut flooring and cabinets along with rich colors - deep greens, purples, and pink - to create a moody and luxurious ambiance that harmonizes with the historic elements of the penthouse. This renovation not only preserves the architectural essence but also infuses it with the owner’s distinctive design sensibility.

The two bathrooms are uniquely treated to reflect distinct atmospheres. One is enveloped in a saturated emerald green, creating a bold and sensory experience, while the other offers a serene retreat, featuring tranquil milky white marble that evokes calmness and elegance.
